If you've been holding off upgrading to a digital SLR, the Sony DSLR-A350 will make you glad you waited. This easy-to-use camera gives you an array of photo-taking conveniences, and delivers razor-sharp 14.2-megapixel images. Easy shooting from any angle
You can use the 'A350's optical SLR viewfinder to compose your photos. Or, spot your subjects and frame your shots using the camera's responsive Live Preview LCD — just like you would with a point-and-shoot cam. The LCD's handy tilt-screen design lets you easily adjust the viewing angle upward by as much as 130° or downward up to 40°. This gives you highly convenient picture taking, even from difficult shooting positions.

Cons: proprietary flash connection
Summary: I absolutely love this camera. It took me a while to buy my first digital SLR. I've had Sony's in the past with my last one being the DSC-F828. I always end up back with Sony. One thing that made me hesitate on switching to a DSLR is that I've got quite used to framing my photos through the lcd screen and didn't feel comfortable abandoning that method and going back to using a viewfinder. The 350 gives me the freedom to use either, and the lcd tilts so I can mimic the 828's ability to rotate the body in overhead or low level photos. I'm used to Sony's vibrant colors and sharp image quality. So, this SLR does it all for me. I'm so happy I waited for Sony to release this camera. I absolutely love it. "
I use the 18-250 tamron lens.
focus is very fast. live view is very handy for difficult shots.
like the D5 Is works well, though not better than the D5.
metering is exellent and much better than the D5, colors
are greath as well.
i was worried about noise performance but i most say noise is no problem at all at 100-400 in jpeg and detail is super.
I took iso 800 and 1600 shots in raw and the details were awesome, yes there was some noise but after running it trough a noiseweare programma the results were stunning.
D range optimizer works better than expected.
Bye the way i really like the 18-250 tamron lens, u used to use the tamron 18-200 lens but the 18-250 focus faster and is sharper.
also i liked the smart tele convertor on the A350,normaly this reduces picture quallity but with 14 megapixels this extra zoom really worked well.
What a like about the A350 :
details in pictures are exellent.
greath live view especially compared to canon/nikon.
tilting and swift LCD screen.
sensor dust reduction.
focus fast.
dynamic range optimizer works greath.
exllelent metering.
IS works well.
What i liked less:
EV finder is small, if i want to bring my eye to the EV
finder i have my nose at the lcd screen, the lcd sticks
to far out of the body.
I order a sony eye cup this makes the EV finder
brighter and bigger and it sticks 2 cm out so
you can put your eye against it withouth putting
your nose to the LCD screen.
continuous shooting slower than my old D5 2/5fs.
noise reduction in jpeg not best in class at high iso,
but shooting in raw and running through noiseweare
is solving this.

for some half a year, I love this camera. Its rather unique trick for a DSLR is the live view system, which auto focuses as quickly as when using the traditional viewfinder. This means it can be used in live view most normally unlike most other systems which are slow or clunky. I thought the flip out screen was a bit of a gimmick before I got it, but it has come in useful so often I miss it when using other cameras. It can give you that bit more potential to set up an odd shot otherwise not practical.
On the down side, the live view system doesn't offer an image zoom so for very fine manual focusing other camera types may be better. Also the implementation means the optical viewfinder image is relatively small compared to other systems.
The other general plus of the system is the body based image stabilisation system. This means practically any lens can be stabilised, unlike on other lens based systems where it is often lacking on cheaper or shorter focal length lenses.
I have bought another camera since for other uses, but I kept the A350 which remains my favourite for indoor use and for wider angle shooting. "
