Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100 Digital camera user reviews

"Strengths:Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100 Digital camera has Better value than other DSLRs. Uses Compact Flash cards as well as Pro Duo Memory Sticks. Steady shot built into camera, so you can use your 35mm Minolta Maxxuum lenses as well as Maxxuum flashes.

Weaknesses: Uses Sony proprietary battery, so you may want to buy an extra. LCD screen smears easily. Proprietary flash shoe, if you don't have a Maxxuum flash unit from your 35mm camera,it will be expensive.

Overall Evaluation: Overall this camera is a good value for a DSLR. Sony bought Minolta/Konica so Maxxuum lenses and flashes will work. You might be able to get some lenses at garage sales for cheap. This camera might be clearance priced as Sony has come out with the A200. The battery life is pretty good. If you are going to shoot children's sporting events be sure to get a high speed compact flash card (33X or more) in order to maximize the speed it will take consecutive pictures.

"The image quality of Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100 Digital camera is on-par with the Canon Xsi and Nikon D60 below ISO 800 and the build quality is better. The image loses some detail at ISO 800 and 1600 but this hardly noticable. Compared to the Sony a200, I prefer having the second dial to change ISO, focus settings, etc. Bought at Bestbuy with kit 18-70mm lens for $420 which is about half the price of the D60 and Xsi. I got a Tameron 70-300mm 1:2 macro lens for another $180. The auto-focus is a little noisy and slow, but the image quality and range is very good. And you still have several hundred dollars in savings compared to buying this year's Canon or Nikon model. Best bang for your buck without question. "

"Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100 Digital camera is the perfect camera for anyone starting any type of photography. Advanced users will love the res on this 10.2 megapixel camera. Like the review before me I too thought it was easy to swhich from the canon powershot series. I was going for the Pentax K10 or Nikon D70s but the sony was the best deal for the price. Here are some features and thoughts I had about this camera:Super Steady shot:I really dont know is this feature is worth it. It works but i wish it could be more powerful.Clean CCD: This, I have no idea how this works but, it works.Lenses and stuff: This is not a problem sony lenses are really really nice, but they are soooooo expensive and i really don't want to buy Quantary lenses, so minolta has very nice lenses that work on the sony. Sigma and Tamaron also make nice lenses but if I personall would go with the expensive sony lenses. Accessories are not a problem with the sony. An extra battery wasn't hard to find even though I didn't buy one. Sony flashes ans shutter cables are not hard to find either. Great focus system: The Eye-start Autofocus system, i didn't know about this untill I read about it on www.RitzCamera.com. Instead of pressing the shutter button halfway it automaticly will focus when you bring your eye to the viewfinder. I havent fully tried this feature yet, but it sounds good.[...] RAW+JPEG and RAW: I love shooting in RAW+JPEG I think the quality is higher. This a fantastic camera for all types of photography. I reccomend it. It man not be a Nikon or Cannon but it shure is better!"

"Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100 Digital camera has made a trend in the digital photography world. The camera isn't too heavy, and has a great feel in your hands. There is a light sensor for an autofocus feature for when you use the viewfinder. The fact that you can use Minolta and Konica lenses along with Sony's, expands the mid stream and the professional user horizons.
