Olympus EVOLT E-420 Digital camera user reviews

"For low light you may want to try 1.4 or 1.6 for a short lens such as the one mounted if offered by other companies. In house you can get away without a flash if you don't want to spend the $200 on a flash.

However I'd much rather have a 50mm as a prime over a 25. I didn't think I'd use the 50 as much as I found myself using it in place of a short range lens

""I got this a take-anywhere camera to replace a G9. I'm really impressed so far. The sensor being so much bigger than the G9's results in far superior image quality, and it's an SLR. It's much bigger than the G9, of course, but it's WAY smaller than a 40D; small enough to take somewhere not specifically for photography. The raw conversion software is slow compared to DPP or Bibble. The image quality I've obtained so far has been really good, and I only have the second-level Zuiko lens, not the first. Like any camera at first, there's a learning curve, and I'm still on it, but no unfavorable impressions yet (unless they were not significant enough to have registered in my memory). I think this is a great small (world's smallest so far) DSLR, and I don't think anyone would go wrong choosing it (assuming they didn't want one of the larger ones with sensor-based IS; in that case, the E-520 would be the choice)."

"I am new to SLR cameras but wanted good camera as I am going on a 3 month trip early next year. I did a bit of research and I have had olympus cameras before so I decided to get the Olympus E420. I just went for weeks holiday and I brought the camera with me to get used to it. The camera is really easy to use and the quality of the pictures are second to none. Within the space of 5 minutes I was up and running. The controls are really simple to use. The auto focus feature allows you to point the camera, press auto focus and shoot. The camera has multple different scene selections that sets the different features such as flash intensitity, shutter speed etc... for you based to the different scene you select. These different scenes really make a difference to the pictures produced. All of these can be configured manually but I havnt got that far yet. The two lenses are again very eay to use as the auto focus does that last bit of focusing for you. (This can also be done manually). One of the main reasons why I went for this camera is that as when travelling for the 3 months I want a small camera and this camera is very neet and tidy and exactly what I want for my trip. I know I have only touched on the potential of this camera and have lots to learn but it has impressed me, so much so that I decided to write this review. So I would totally recommend this camera to a novice like myself who wants to learn how to use a slr camera. "
"i bought Olympus EVOLT E-420 Digital camera three weeks ago. the pictures' quality were great. when i was looking for an entry-level dslr, this camera was the cheapest and the smallest dslr with only US$328 with lens kit 14-42mm"

"I love this Olympus EVOLT E-420 ! I have spent years buying the two top brands instead of getting in my heart what I knew was the right one, Olympus. Recently made the plunge because I always new Oly lenses were the best by far. I am not a professional but a hobby and travel photographer.
The camera is small, which I really like, and great to carry around all the time. But would not be good for someone with large hands. The LCD is great not only for viewing and taking photos but also to set the settings that you want to use. It is just so convenient to have it right there instead of having to go into the camera menu.
