Canon EOS 40D Digital camera user reviews

"My first impression of Canon EOS 40D Digital camerawas the build quality of the camera is excellent. My previous camera was a Canon Digital Rebel(300D). This camera blows it away. It is a lot heavier, but that is not a bad thing. The performance is second to none as well. The image quality was noticeably better, even with the same class. Higher ISO performance and just the overall speed of the camera is night and day compared to the older Rebel. Of course, the newer rebels, the difference is not as pronounced, but still better. "

"I am a film student at NYU so I have some experience shooting with film cameras. I am interested in still photography so I opted to buy the Canon 40 D and I must say it is a wonderful beginners camera as well as professional camera. If you are a serious photographer and can afford this type of camera I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. I would recommend really knowing what you need and want out of the lens most importantly. Also make sure to find a lens that does well in a low light situation.

"I upgrade from my Canon Rebel XT for 2 reasons: better auto focus with fast lenses in low light and better high ISO image quality. Very satisfied on both. Based on reviews, the 50D didn't seem to make any significant improvements in these areas. All of the updates/improvements were in areas I wasn't really interested in so I took advantage of the 40D price drop. I really don't need a 15 MP camera and was concerned with the corresponding huge RAW file size. 10 MP is enough for me. It took me a few days to adjust to the 40D's larger size and controls, but now just feels right. No regrets on my decision.

    "Pros: None.
Cons: I would not recommend this camera. I have been a Canon EOS buyer for over 20 years. But this 40D is the worst Canon camera I have ever owned. It has been to Canon for repair 3 times and every time they say it is fixed, but it is not. It has been to the Senior Engineers who say it is normal. I have two professional photographers who have used my camera that agree, this is something wrong with this camera. Canon support is useless if you have a problem. The will just blow you off until your warranty expires. Search the web for 40D soft images and you will see what I am talking about. This series of camera has issues. Stay away from it. And from what I have read, the 50D is not any better. Do yourself a favor and buy Nikon or Sony. Canon EOS cameras are only good if you can afford the $4000 cameras.

This is a wonderful camera. the 10.1 MP performs very well. Crisp clear photo's! I am looking forward to using it in May for one of my Weddings I have booked to do! It is a sweet addition to my gear! I find nothing to complain about. It's a solid camera! "
